I Love LA season 1 ending explained: What goes down in New York?
The finale of I Love LA opens with Alani and Maia, who is now single and unemployed, arriving in New York for Tallulah’s fittings with the stylist, Antoine (played by Tim Baltz), for the Formé Dinner. With both Dylan and her sleazy ex-boss Ben (played by Colin Woodell) on her mind, Maia accompanies Tallulah for her dress fitting, where the latter decides to do the one thing that she seems to love doing the most – take stuff that isn’t hers.
Tallulah thinks the black gown that Antoine has picked out for her isn’t quite her look, so she decides to steal another one off his racks instead, without letting Maia know.
Later that night, the girls decide to go out for a drink, which soon multiplies into several drinks after Ben arrives at their table, flirting his way into convincing Maia to use his credit card for their night out instead.
Back in Los Angeles, Charlie arrives at Dylan’s home to comfort him at his friend’s request. The two share a vulnerable moment as they open up and vent about their respective relationships. As Dylan hears Charlie talk about his ex-boyfriend Andrew, he advises Charlie to reach out to him.
While Dylan obviously misses Maia, much to his disappointment, she seems to be caught in her own world once again. This is proven to him when the next morning, a panicky Maia calls Charlie after she and Tallulah wake up with highly unprofessional matching tattoos. Dylan, who has now seen this behaviour one too many times, walks out of the house in frustration.
Much like the other two girls, Alani wakes up in her dad’s apartment with a shock awaiting her when she discovers a woman who is not her mother in their apartment. Much to her horror, this woman introduces herself as Denise (played by Whitney Rice), her father’s girlfriend.
Devastated by this revelation, Alani decides to confront her father when he arrives back home with her mother, only to find out that Denise wasn’t his girlfriend but a stalker who has been haunting him for over 15 years now! Before Alani can process this information, Denise stabs her dad in the arm and runs away, leading to even more chaos.
After her call with Charlie, Ben arrives at Maia’s room under the pretext of “picking up his credit card”. The two start making out, and soon enough, he asks her to join his company, Mercer Digital, by offering her a jaw-dropping salary. But she realises that her ex-boss doesn’t really want her – he just wants to control her.
In the meantime, Charlie, on Maia’s request, arrives in New York with a new outfit for Tallulah. He convinces her not just to decline the job offer, but also to lie to Tallulah about it so that she doesn’t get disappointed in her best friend and manager. He then goes off to reconcile with Andrew.
I Love LA ending explained: How does season 1 conclude?
Maia finally decides to call Dylan, but when she does, he doesn’t pick up. The reason? He is in bed with Claire, Maia’s arch-nemesis.
The HBO series concludes with Maia and Tallulah running towards the subway while wearing chic formal attire. Thanks to Denise, who stabbed a famous Hollywood producer, the streets of LA are now closed, which makes the girls realise that the only way they will make it to the Formé Dinner in time is by taking public transport.
