DOROTHY LEE HAMILTON GREEN, a long time resident of Houston, Texas entered into eternal rest peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 4, 2014. She was born to the late Lonnie Hamilton, Sr. and Ella Dee Moore Hamilton on October 17, 1932 in Greenwood, LA. She was the eldest of 11 children. Her early education was attained at schools in Waskom, TX. and Rodessa, LA. She graduated from Booker T. Washington H. S. in Shreveport, LA. She attended Grambling State University and then Texas Southern University after moving to Texas to live with her maternal aunt Rosie Moore Smith and later with her paternal aunt Annie Hamilton Bullard.
She met and married her longtime companion Lincoln Green on October 18, 1954. To this union 5 daughters were born. She was a loving wife and proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith and Jesus Christ was the number one priority in her life and education was a strong second. Even though in a frail state, she was determined and did attend her youngest grandson’s (Korey) graduation commencement exercise at Prairie View A&M University on December 14, 2013.
Dorothy was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and stayed faithful until her illness. She was faithful in many roles and positions in the Church which were; Youth Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, Youth Matron, Deaconess, Missionary Sister and Food Committee Chairman. Dorothy’s mother had a love for sewing which inspired her to become an expert seamstress that carried on through her daughters. She also loved gardening, reading her Sunday School Lesson book, and looking out for all the church and neighborhood children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Lonnie Hamilton, Sr., mother, Ella Dee Moore Hamilton, brother, John Edward (Ike) Hamilton and sister, Joyce Lucille Hamilton June.
She leaves to cherish her husband of 59 years, Lincoln Green. Five daughters; Theresa (Tommy), Annette, Sandra (Sheldon), JoAnn (Pernell), and Jacqueline.
Eight grandchildren; Shaunica, Alisha (Ananias), Keidre (James), Tiffany, Timothy (Tanika), Brittany, Traci, and Korey.
Eight Great-grandchildren; Torynce, Zachary, Alexander, Zion, Timothy Jr., Dean, Taryn, Ellis.
Three brothers; Macura Hamilton (Delia), Lonnie Hamilton, Jr. of Shreveport, LA, Robert Hamilton (Beverly) of Harbor City, CA.
Six sisters; Ella Dixson, Maxine Webb, and Elizabeth Hamilton of Shreveport, LA., Molly Guy (Huey) of Phoenix, AZ., Patsy Solomon (Alphonsa) of Red Oak, TX. and Bobbie Poindexter (Rene’) of Moreno Valley, CA.
In-Laws; Joyrene Hamilton, Lucille Green, Ben Ed and Hazel Green, Violet Rouse, Gloria Johnson, Dorothy Mae Green, Joe and Versie Johnson; Best First Cousin; Jimmie Ray Bradley; Best Friend; Helen Randle (55 years); Christian Great-granddaughter; Asya Johnson; And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
