 In-Home Care Cullen, LA

How does In-home Senior Care in Cullen, LA work?

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it's especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one ages, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

 Senior Care Cullen, LA

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a unfamiliar assisted living community, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

Comfort
Comfort

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them? A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old. With the help of elderly care in Cullen, LA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Healthy Living
Healthy Living

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors. Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

Independence
Independence

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like an assisted living community. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

Cost and Convenience
Cost and Convenience

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, can be less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care in Cullen, LA gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Empowers Seniors

Affordable Care Plans

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

Veteran's Benefits
Veteran's Benefits

Aid and Attendance benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.

Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance

Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.

Private Insurance
Private Insurance

Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.

Life Insurance
Life Insurance

Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Respite Care Cullen, LA

During your Care Plan consultation with Always Best Care, your Care Coordinator will speak with you about in-home care costs and what options there may be to help meet your budget needs.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Cullen,LA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

 Caregivers Cullen, LA

If you have never considered in-home care before, we understand that you and your family may have concerns about your Care Plan and its Care Coordinator. "Stubbornly independent" Candelo's Heath Cullen in LA now recording crowd-funded album

Candelo-based musician and songwriter Heath Cullen is in LA, poised to begin recording his fourth album, River Caught The Flood this week with Grammy award-winning producer Joe Henry.

After the success of 2015’s Outsiders and given the calibre of Joe Henry’s work, expectations are sky-high.

But before he can begin recording more music magic for us, Heath has to ensure he can pay his star-studded band, made up of guitarist Adam Levy, drummer Jay Bellerose, bass player Jennifer Condos, Patrick Warren on keys and Levron Henry on reed instruments.

Since he arrived in the US three weeks ago, Heath has been sampling vegetarian bratwurst, experiencing a few California earthquakes and anxiously eyeing his Pozible campaign to see if he has the funds to pay the band this week. While we are speaking, I’m watching the numbers click by on Heath’s Pozible campaign and with 21 days still to go, he’s only a few hundred dollars away from his $20,000 goal.

Crowdfunding is not a handout, Heath points out, but a way for people to pre-purchase the work of artists they believe in to ensure it can be produced, effectively creating a community-owned record label for the artist.

Although Heath has crowdfunded for his three previous albums, this album is his most ambitious project yet.

“It’s felt like quite a terrifying financial hurdle. With something like this, you don’t know how it’s going to go and I’m so, so grateful to the support of my community,” he says.

For Heath, there is no other option than to continue making music independently.

“It’s an interesting climate in the music industry at the moment, it’s all changing so quickly with music streaming platforms and that’s because people expect music to be free,” he muses “you can’t blame them really, but it makes it tricky to be paid for what you’re doing.”

Throughout his career, Heath has retained a sense of integrity remaining strongly rooted to his home town of Candelo and “stubbornly independent”.

“I’m happy that I own my music,” Heath continues “it’s an age-old story but it does happen still, that an artist makes an album under a label, so the label owns the album but then decides not to release it. The artist can be in the position of having to buy their own music back.”

To remain independent, and still work with the musicians Heath has is quite a feat.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be working with Joe,” Heath says “I admire the man so much and that he would choose to work with me is … very humbling. Joe can pick the jobs that he does.”

While he says he hasn’t bumped into Ringo yet, being in LA’s thriving music scene means he does end up crossing paths with well-known names. As one example of the connections to popular music’s royalty, Joe is married to Madonna’s sister, Melanie Ciccone and has been since 1987.

“This city has been kind to me, it’s a great town for creative people,” Heath shares “but everyone is just another human to me.”

Heath and Joe have written one new song together for this record, Song That I Know.

“Joe has co-written songs with Billy Bragg, Mose Allison, Roseanne Cash, Madonna… and now me!”

With his financial goal met and exceeded, Heath can now focus solely on getting the most from his time in the studio.

“We’ll be cutting this record the old way – live,” Heath explains “it’s how I prefer to work, I think the chemistry is more tangible. You can work separately and get good results but it’s not as fun. I want to make a record that sounds like the musicians are enjoying what they’re doing.”

Heath’s Pozible campaign will continue running until the end of July and any funds raised above $20,000 will go towards publicity and promotion of the album and touring costs.

River Caught The Flood will be released in early 2020.

Leo Cullen wasted no time in facing the media after Saturday night’s URC semi-final loss to Munster. Disappointing as the result was, the Leinster head coach was already turning the page and learning his lines for the week to come.

La Rochelle lie in wait just seven days distant from now, back here at the same Aviva Stadium. That Champions Cup final has been the main focus through this hectic end-of-season run on two fronts. Now it’s their sole focus.

No time to waste.

“For us now we can’t dwell on it too much. That’s the reality. We can’t dwell on it this week because we’re out again next weekend against La Rochelle here. They will be desperate to retain their trophy so it’s two teams going hard at it again.

“Hopefully it will be a great occasion. That’s what we have to look forward to now. There are lot of things in that game there today that we can be better at but it’s over now. You’ve got to give Munster credit. They stuck to it right to the end.”

He gave Munster their due more than once. That needs stressing.

He also made the point that Leinster had rolled the dice on their selection for this interpro knockout and had to accept the fact that their numbers didn’t come up.

They had made seven changes from the side that beat the Sharks in the league quarter-final a week before. Most of their top shelf players had been left out of reach while Robbie Henshaw and Ronan Kelleher were given runs after stints on the sideline.

“We knew we were taking a bit of a risk with that piece,” said Cullen.

Cohesion was his buzz word, in that Leinster lacked it. He was right. Munster enjoyed 57% possession and 56% territory and the only surprise is that those numbers weren’t even higher in their favour. It felt like they had even more of the game.

Leinster’s discipline let them down too. They conceded eleven penalties but seven in the first-half and Munster really should have closed this one out long before Jack Crowley snatched the win with a late, great drop goal.

“We were very close to it, very close to closing out the game. It’s disappointing we weren’t quite able to do that but, again, you have to give credit to Munster. There’s two teams fighting right to the very end, they nail their opportunity at the death and we don’t get another chance. We were very, very close to winning a semi-final. Unfortunately not today.

“Again, back to that cohesion part. They had a more settled group there today and that’s a call that we made and we have to accept the consequences of that now. Munster look strong but we fight our way back in and repel and repel them on numerous occasions so the fight among the lads is great. You couldn’t fault them for a second.”

Leo Cullen admitted he was bitterly disappointed after Leinster were edged out for the second Heineken Champions Cup final in a row and said La Rochelle "had their number".

Leinster, as they did in last season's decider, led for most of the game but were unable to deal with the French side's power and persistence in the second half.

Georges Henri Colombe’s converted try with eight minutes to play decided the game, while Leinster blew their chance at a late score after Michael Ala'alatoa was sent off for a dangerous clearance at a ruck.

Leinster had led 17-0 in the 12th minute after a three-try blitz but only scored three points in the second half as Ronan O’Gara’s side defended their title.

"It was an amazing game, I thought the guys came out of the traps very quickly and were really clinical in terms of taking opportunities," head coach Cullen told RTÉ Sport.

"Second half was a bit different, we couldn’t exit that area of the field quick enough.

"Too much continued pressure on ourselves, we are bitterly disappointed. Credit to La Rochelle, they stuck in there and came away with a famous win.

"It’s devastating for the guys, it means so much to everyone, a big thanks to the supporters, sorry we couldn’t get it done this year.

"Obviously, everyone is bitterly disappointed, credit to La Rochelle.

"We came up with some big turnovers at different stages but then we weren’t accurate in some of the clearances so again, just that wave after wave of pressure. Credit to La Rochelle, they had our number.

"We had some chances at the end but weren’t quite clinical enough to take them.

Four-time European champions Leinster have now lost finals in 2019, 2022 and 2023 and Cullen, the first person to win the competition as a player and coach, urged his squad to keep the faith.

"It’s just maintaining the belief and get back to this stage, it’s so close, like," he said as Leinster’s season came to an end.

"We have a group of players who come through the academy for the most part.

"It’s understanding what it like on the biggest stage, coming up against these big teams, learning is painful but that’s why we all do the work during the year.

"Stay motivated and stay hungry and we’ll get there some day."

Flanker Josh van der Flier added: "Unbelievably disappointed. Such great support, all our family and friends, it’s heartbreaking really.

"Years of work goes into getting a team that’s good enough to get here and it’s incredibly disappointing.

"I have to thank our supporters, they’ve been unbelievable all season and incredible today and I’m sorry we couldn’t do it today.

"We have to give credit to La Rochelle, their third final in a row and they won again today. Unbelievably heartbroken really.

"It was a good start, we probably struggled in the second half, we didn’t quite get going and they put a lot of pressure on us."

Unsung Heroes - Coaches making an impact: Cullen Doody leads Jesuit (LA) to new heights

If Coach Cullen Doody and his Jesuit (New Orleans, LA) boys go on to unprecedented state and post-season cross-country success this fall and beyond, they’ll likely remember last weekend at Nike XC Town Twilight, Presented by The Garrett Companies, as a breakthrough and landmark junction in their journey.“I’ve got to tell you, that was the most fun I’ve ever had at a cross country meet in my life. If Coach Cullen Doody and his Jesuit (New Orleans, LA) boys go on to unprecedented state and post-season cross-country success this fall and beyond, they’ll likely remember last weekend at Nike XC Town Twilight, Presented by The Garrett Companies, as a breakthrough and landmark junction in their journey.

“I’ve got to tell you, that was the most fun I’ve ever had at a cross country meet in my life. The atmosphere was incredible,” said Doody. “I knew if we could go up there and beat Carmel, without (top runner) Michael (Vocke), that it would be extremely impressive. And we did it.”

What’s also extremely impressive is how Doody has taken Jesuit from a being team with a trio of 5th-place finishes at the Louisiana state meet to one that’s arrived as national powerhouse -- in three years.

Doody took over the program in 2020, having been a decent runner himself at the school (Class of ‘08). He knew there were talented student-athletes at Jesuit and he also knew what could happen with a bit of a culture change, raised expectations and a new training approach -- having himself improved dramatically while running collegiately at LSU.

“We started with some talented kids, but I knew they could get a lot faster,” says Doody. “So we started by changing the way they even thought about distance running, just some rudimentary stuff. Then we started getting the kids to buy in to the idea they could get better.”

One turning point that first fall came when they beat 3-time defending state champ Catholic-Baton Rouge in a big invite. “They were down their top guy, but it was still a big deal for us,” Doody recalls. “Every guy on our team broke 16:00 for 3 miles and they just couldn’t believe it.

“We eventually got 2nd to them at state, but we were a really good team. That was the buy-in. Then that next spring (2021) in track we had some really good performances and a lot of excitement started building around the program.”

In 2021-22, Jesuit won the 5A state XC crown with 22 points, then in track had five athletes run between 9:06-9:26 for 3,200 with no seniors. With everyone back this fall, the Blue Jays have kept climbing the ranks.

Jesuit’s path to XC Town was not a direct one, however. They originally planned to compete at Great American. Then Hurricane Ian came along.

“Being from New Orleans, we’re kind of experts on hurricanes,” says Doody. “I started looking at the long range path on that storm, looking at where it was going after Florida. I had a pretty good feeling Great American was going to get cancelled. On Tuesday I woke up and thought we’ve got to make a move right now.”

Jesuit changed their travel plans to come to XC Town, though they were only able to bring 7 runners compared to the original 14 they’d hoped for. Meanwhile top runner Vocke had been dealing with illness and ‘21 #3 man (and 9:11 3200 runner) Lucas Sampedro was still coming back from injury.

However, sophomore rising star Brady Mullen ran a fantastic PR 15:04 in 6th, senior Jack DesRoches followed at 15:11 in 12th, #3 man Patrick O’Dowd PR’d at 15:25 in 18th and Robert Bussion was right behind in 15:26/21st.

“Then our 5th guy, Leland Crawford, gutted it out,” Doody says. “He didn’t have his best day, but he came through in the end.” Crawford won the meet’s 5th Man Award and Jesuit scored 96 (15:22 average) to prevail over Carmel’s 107 (15:20 average).

While Doody and his squad are excited about what lies ahead with the upcoming championship season, he’s also looking back on how they got here.

“We give a lot of credit to Coach Rudy Horvath, who brought me here and had a bunch of talented guys already out,” he says. “I think of guys like Jack, Patrick and Robert, who were sophomores back in 2020; back then, they were not superstars but they bought in and wanted to be good.

“I expected this, that we had a chance to have a really good team. I knew if I could get these kids to train properly, that we had the right formula for great running school here at Jesuit (except for climate). It’s just a matter of building up the training and the expectations. They wanted a road map to success and I promised it to them.”

Their whistle-stop trip was over within a few days, thanks to the ladies' busy schedules back home, but that didn't stop the travelling trio from taking one last dip in their hotel's pool.

Making the most of LA's sweltering summer temperatures, Zoe and Bronwyn took to Instagram to document a crisp dip and pool-side white wine sessions; a few hours before jumping on a home-bound plane.
