The Cardinals bring a high-powered offense with them to Greenwood. In their last two games, wins against Alma and Morrilton, they have scored a total of 108 points.
In last week's 51-28 win against Morrilton, quarterback Slade Norwood completed 23-of-33 passes for 305 yards and four TDs while adding a rushing TD. Receiver Cooper Stoltz caught 10 passes for 153 yards.
It's been a period of transition for the Bulldogs, who won several state titles in 6A before their drop down to 5A. They are also under the direction of a new head coach, former defensive coordinator Jason Gill.
In addition, they are breaking in a new quarterback, Cruz Coatney. But, in a program that has produced several high-profile quarterbacks over the years, Coatney is making his own name, as the senior has thrown for exactly 1,500 yards and 13 TDs.
The Bulldogs also have a big-play receiver in junior Braxton Canada, who has 54 catches for 679 yards and 10 scores.

INDIANAPOLIS — Amazon is expanding its reach in Central Indiana.
On Thursday, the company, along with the office of Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, announced that Amazon will have a new $100 million manufacturing facility in Greenwood. A news release states that the facility is expected to create 300 manufacturing and engineering jobs by the end of 2028.
The release said that the 585,000-square-foot facility will help produce products that power the company’s fulfillment and robotics network, integrating the following at the facility:

“Amazon’s decision to locate this facility in Indiana is a powerful testament to the strength of our manufacturing workforce, our world-class infrastructure, and our commitment to creating an environment where businesses of all sizes can grow and thrive,” Braun said in the release. “This $100 million investment will bring 300 high-paying, skilled jobs to the community that offer Hoosier families real careers in advanced manufacturing. Indiana has always been a state that builds things, and Amazon’s investment reinforces our position as the nation’s leader in manufacturing.”
This comes after the company has invested more than $40 billion in Indiana and has created more than 27,000 jobs in the state since 2008, the release said.
“We’re thrilled to bring 300 advanced manufacturing jobs to Greenwood, Indiana, and to continue investing in growth and opportunities across the state,” Holly Sullivan, the vice president of economic development at Amazon, said in the release. “This facility represents a significant investment in the Indianapolis community that will create jobs with a median salary well above the regional average. Indiana has a world-class manufacturing workforce and business-friendly environment, and we’re excited to continue creating opportunities for people across the state and helping them learn the new skills they need to take advantage of those opportunities.”
Officials said the new facility will bring “advanced manufacturing capabilities… to strengthen Amazon’s supply chain, create high-paying skilled jobs and invest in the communities that have supported the company’s growth.”
“We want projects that bring real, long-term value to our community, and 300 skilled jobs with average salaries of nearly $100,000 a year is exactly the kind of opportunity we want to see,” Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers said in the release. “Amazon’s investment reflects the kind of high-quality development that strengthens our economy, creates meaningful careers and adds to Greenwood’s future.
“We are proud that Amazon has chosen Greenwood for this major investment and look forward to welcoming this new advanced manufacturing operation to our city,” Myers concluded.

Whiteland took care of business at home against Greenwood winning all three sets and advancing in the Johnson County Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday.
Whiteland faced Greenwood Christian in the semifinals on Thursday at Edinburgh. That winner meet the winner of the Center Grove/Indian Creek semifinal later Thursday night in the championship game.
The Warriors (9-11) were in complete control of the first two sets, winning 25-17 in the first set, and 25-14 in the second set. Whiteland head coach Jenny Munn provided insight about some of the things that her team executed well early on.
“Our middles have been a big thing for us,” Munn said. “Just getting our passes good enough, so we can use our middles a little bit more. I think we’ve really benefited from that especially in set one and set two. When our middles swing, we are pretty successful.”
Whiteland sophomore Lydia Bolinger, one of the warriors designated servers, talked about some of the things that separate them from other teams.
“I think we all support each other very well, and I think we’re always trying to get better,” Bolinger said. “We’re very competitive, and I love this group of girls.”
While Whiteland did come out on top, the third set was much more competitive than the first two. After starting down 8-3 in the final set, Greenwood (9-17) went on a 9-2 run before forcing Whiteland to call timeout. Greenwood head coach Jon Vernon discussed what went better in the third set compared to the rest of the match.
“I think our passing was better,” Vernon said. “I thought we were more consistent throughout the lineup, we moved to different people in different positions, which I think helped us out a bit. But yeah, it was a different set that third set. Primarily because our serve receives were a lot better.”
The third set finished 25-20 with Whiteland going on a 6-1 run to end it. Prior to the run, the match remained back and forth, with four total lead changes occurring in just the third set. Greenwood senior Ellie Lisle took away some positives from what they did in the final set.
“I think we talked a lot more, and we just connected a lot better,” Lisle said. “I think we’ve come a long way from the start of the season, and we’re just getting better and ready for sectionals.”

There’s no shortage of competition between Emerald and Greenwood boys volleyball.
But so far this season, the Vikings have continued to find a way to finish on top.
Emerald added another chapter to the crosstown rivalry Wednesday, defeating Greenwood 25-19 and 25-17 to move to 3-0 against the Eagles this season and 8-2 overall.
For Emerald coach Jake Jenkins, the win was a reflection of the energy his team showed from the court to the bench.
“I told them, just great effort,” Jenkins said. “We had a lot of guys who were on the bench come off the bench and just keep the energy up and keep encouraging their teammates, and it paid off.”
Emerald controlled the first set early, but Greenwood refused to let the Vikings pull away. The Eagles tied the set at 3-3 behind an ace from Presley Hansen before Emerald regained the lead.
Fischer Witt put a ball down for a 4-3 lead, while Jacob Vera contributed from the service line and Bralen Spearman added a key hit in the middle for the Vikings.
Greenwood started to find its rhythm, with Logan Torres-Montero picking apart Emerald’s defense by finding open spots on the court while Hansen kept the Vikings under pressure from the service line.
Greenwood coach Jacob Lethco pointed to Torres-Montero as an example of the attitude he wants from his players.
“He doesn’t say very much, but kind of leads by example,” Lethco said. “He plays hard, and whenever he speaks, they listen.”
The Eagles battled Emerald late in the opening set, but the Vikings held on to take the first set of the match.
Emerald opened the scoring in the second set and built a 3-2 lead after Niegil White handled a Greenwood serve and the Vikings capitalized on an attack that Greenwood could not get over the net.
The teams traded points early before Emerald began to pull away. Witt added a point after Greenwood hit the ball out, while White followed with an ace.
Emerald continued to control the set and built a 13-7 advantage before Greenwood called a timeout.
Greenwood battled back, cutting the deficit to 17-14 behind points from Torres-Montero and other Greenwood attacks. Emerald responded with another run, taking an 18-14 lead.
Greenwood’s Tyler Andrews hit the ball into an open area to make it 19-16, but Emerald regained control and moved ahead 22-15.
Spearman then helped Emerald reach match point at 24-16, and the Vikings closed out the match when Greenwood sent its final attack into the net.
While Emerald’s offense found ways to finish, Jenkins credited setter Noah Fleming for helping the Vikings maintain their composure when things became difficult.
“He’s just kind of the glue that holds the team together,” Jenkins said. “That setter, kind of quarterback role. And when things are going crazy, everybody kind of leans on him.”
Fleming’s value became especially important when Emerald struggled with its passing.
“We weren’t passing well, and he was playing really hard to get our guys some good sets,” Jenkins said.
The team’s energy has become one of its biggest strengths, even when playing away from home.
“What’s really cool about our team, it’s almost like they create every away game as a home game because of the excitement and the encouragement that they bring,” Jenkins said.
For Greenwood, the match offered another opportunity to test itself against Emerald and gain experience in close games.
“We have a very young team, and so seven of those eight losses have been in the last set,” Lethco said. “We’re right there from getting over the hump. I think sometimes with such an experienced group, the only way to learn how to play in tight games is to be in them.”
Lethco said the Eagles have continued to improve throughout the season and can use matches like Wednesday’s to build confidence.
“We’ve seen a lot of growth, a lot of improvement,” Lethco said. “Just trying to build on it and realizing what they’re capable of.”
