Maj. Gen. Guthrie began his military career on 22 May 1985, when he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army. He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course, United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Defense Strategy Course, and the Army War College. MG Guthrie is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he received his BS Degree in Business Economics, Texas Tech University where he received a MS in Business (Finance) and a Juris Doctorate, and the U.S. Army War College where he received a Masters in Strategic Studies.
He has successfully held command and staff positions at company through division, joint and combined headquarters, and in support of the Department of State. MG Guthrie is married to the former Shari Rosenstein. They have four children: Pierce and his wife, Katherine and grandchildren, Lelia, Hannah, and Ryan; Darrell II and his wife, Daryl, and grandson, Dean; Jean Rose; and Chase. In his civilian occupation, MG Guthrie is the managing member of the Law Office of Darrell J. Guthrie, P.L.L.C.
