Yadkin County Schools has announced that Forbush Middle School math teacher and high school baseball coach Jack Moss has been suspended without pay.
Moss was first suspended with pay on Oct. 31 pending an investigation by both school and law enforcement personnel.
"While this investigation is ongoing, Mr. Moss' suspension has been converted to a suspension without pay, effective November 21, 2023," said a statement from school leadership.
Moss is facing a misdemeanor charge following an incident involving a student, authorities have said. According to the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, on Oct. 31 they were “made aware of an incident involving a teacher and student at Forbush Middle School. An investigation was started and charges were subsequently filed on that date in the name of Jack Moss for one count of simple assault.”
As this is an ongoing investigation involving a juvenile, the Sheriff’s Office said that no further details of the case would be released at this time.
On Nov. 1, Yadkin County School leadership announced that Moss was suspended with pay on Oct. 31 pending an investigation by both school and law enforcement.
“The administration of Yadkin County Schools cooperates fully with law enforcement in the investigation (and prosecution, if applicable) of any allegations of misconduct against an employee of the Yadkin County Schools,” said a statement from the district.
Moss, age 48, has been employed with the Yadkin County School system since August of 2015. Moss was also employed with the Yadkin County School system from 1998 to 2009. He is currently serving as a math teacher at Forbush Middle School as well as the Forbush High School baseball coach, said school officials.
This is not the first time Moss has faced a suspension from his work with the Yadkin County School system. A Winston-Salem Journal article dated October of 2008 said that Moss “was placed on leave with pay after an incident at football practice.” The article gave no further details of what happened during that incident. A Yadkin County Court official said Moss did not have any prior charges.
Yadkin School officials confirmed that Moss was placed on paid suspension in October of 2008 and was reinstated on Jan. 20, 2009. Moss resigned from the Yadkin County School system in June of 2009 to take a position with Winston-Salem For County Schools before returning to Yadkin County Schools in August of 2015.
According to WSFC schools, Moss was employed there from Aug. 17, 2009 to Aug. 14, 2015. According to a district representative, Moss had no record of disciplinary actions while employed there.
Yadkin County school officials confirmed that Moss was also on suspension with pay in 2022.
“While employed as a math teacher at Forbush High School, Mr. Moss was suspended with pay on April 27, 2022 until May 17, 2022. At that time, Mr. Moss was informed that he would be transferred from Forbush High School to Forbush Middle School. He has since served as a math teacher at Forbush Middle School from August of 2022 to present,” said Boomer Kennedy, director of secondary schools.
