A developer plans to turn a 436-acre piece of a former Triad dairy farm into a residential community with more than 1,000 homes.

Triad Business Journal has learned that D.R. Horton (NYSE: DRI) plans to build on part of the former Coble Dairy Farm in Davidson County's Tyro community, west of Lexington. A spokesperson in the Davidson Planning & Zoning department told TBJ that a plan for as many as 1,078 single-family and condo homes is expected to come before the Planning & Zoning Board at the end of this month.

The property, which sits at the corner of Old Salisbury and Tyro roads near Sapona Golf, Swim & Tennis Club, is owned by Hubbard Commercial of Winston-Salem, which paid almost $3.8 million for the property at auction in 2005. Sapona was closed briefly in 2018 by former owner Richard Childress before rebounding under new local ownership.

The rolling land, only a few miles from Interstate 85 access, includes two lakes and barns. According to The Lexington Dispatch, the planned housing development would be the largest in county history.

On Tuesday night, Hubbard Commercial CEO Bruce Hubbard told TBJ that a potential buyer was taking steps toward a purchase, but a purchase had not been completed. Hubbard said a confidentiality agreement prevented him from identifying the potential buyer/builder.

Calls to D.R. Horton's Greensboro-Winston-Salem office were not answered.

Housing is booming throughout the Triad, and especially in Davidson County. On Tuesday night, the Davidson Board of Commissioners will vote on zoning for Fieldstone, a 211-acre tract on the west side of South Union Grove Road, north and south of the terminus of Daydream Lane in the Arcadia community in the northern part of the county.

As TBJ has reported, at least some of the growth in Davidson, can be attributed to Egger Wood Products, which plans to eventually have a workforce of 770 in its new facilities.

At Fieldstone, Shugart Homes plans a mix of single-family homes (in two distinct sections), twin homes and patio homes.

Ken Capron, chief operating officer of Shugart, said that Fieldstone would have 300-plus homes with a total of up to 25 different models.

Capron said some decisions remain on the housing, but he expects prices to range from the low $200,000s into the $300,000s. Amenities will include a pool and cabana complex, much like the one planned at another future Shugart development on the former Hanes Estate in Pfafftown.

"We're meeting a lot of different buyer profiles," he said.

Capron said Shugart's recent affiliation with Mungo Homes and Clayton Properties Group has given the company more capabilities.

"We're trying to do more larger projects with multiple phases," he said. "Multiple sales in the same community is more economical for us, and people buy communities more than they buy houses. We're trying to be all we can be to as many people as we can."

A Davidson County Schools bus driver has been cited for a traffic violation after NC Highway Patrol Troopers say she went off of a road for an unknown reason.

Now, officials with Davidson County Schools are retracting information pertaining to the cause of a wreck involving a school bus Wednesday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol confirms the bus driver was Kristi Parks. Parks was cited for failure to maintain lane control, a traffic violation which will result in a fine.

The incident happened on the 600 block of Front Street in Lexington at 7:44 a.m.

Investigators at the scene say the bus was traveling south on Front Street when it came to a left turn and went off of the road to the left, before swerving back to the right side of the road and got stuck in the mud.

School officials initially reported that seven students from Tyro Elementary School were aboard the bus when it slid from the road Wednesday morning in Lexington, but have since clarified that 12 students were actually on board at the time of the wreck.

School officials also initially reported to WXII 12 News, based on information from the bus driver involved, that the bus pulled off onto a muddy shoulder to avoid an oncoming vehicle in the bus' lane.

Several hours after the wreck, school officials now say there wasn't another vehicle involved, following an investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Troopers say witness interviews helped them determine there was no other vehicle heading toward the bus at the time of the incident.

Several students were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but no one was transported by EMS.

Parks has been employed with Davidson County Schools since March of 2004. She will be removed from her driving duties pending the outcome of the school district's internal investigation.

Courtney Cashatt is a student who was riding the bus.

“It was pretty bad,” said Cashatt.

Cashatt, who says some students were thrown to the side of the bus during the incident, describes to WXII 12 News what Parks did following the wreck.

“The bus driver got up. She was pretty scared, too. She got up and helped everyone out,” Cashatt said.

Parents described what it was like to find out what had happened.

“Very scary. I’m trembling,” said Tamara Marion, a parent a child on the bus.

“My heart went down to my feet."

Update 2.0 for CD Projekt’s action role-playing game, Cyberpunk 2077, has introduced some mysterious teasers related to the Witcher series.

Twitter user SynthPotato has compiled a list of teasers that have been discovered in update 2.0 of Cyberpunk 2077, which seem to be tied to The Witcher series. The discoveries include strange languages, a server room, and a QR code that has been revealed through secrets in a new arcade game.

Among the earliest discoveries appears to be a message found on an in-game computer. The message is addressed to a character named “Polyhistor” from someone by the name of “TyRo//aNtA”. It reads, “TyRo claims to have found something. He was wandering NC, found an old arcade with Vintage Games. In an “over 60 years old game”, he found a sign with “FF06B5″. This is his last message, as it is his last message, and he is going to leave with only his laptop. What the meaning behind this secret is, Polyhistor would have to find out yourself.”

Players discovered this new laptop at the landfill that seems to be coded in Alphabet from the Witcher games. As such, it is speculated that the computer may belong to TyRo. There appears to be some sort of connection between these findings and the FF06B5 mystery that was added with The Witcher 3’s next-gen update. The aforementioned mystery has yet to be solved.

Using patterns to translate the language, players have ended up with a series of random letters. The new Arcade game, which is located near the protein farms, references FF06B5 in PLHSTR’s high score (Polyhistor, the owner of the machine) with a score of “FF06B5”. In the game, players take on the role of Johnny Silverhand and fight their way through Arasaka tower.

Close to where this arcade game is located is a server room. Waiting in server room 941229 until T-270 will grant you a lock, which unlocks a secret room on Floor 52 in the Arcade game. This leads to a maze on Level -10, which features 3×3 parts of a QR code, 6 of which have been found so far. The remaining 3 have yet to be discovered.

A new dental practice is coming to Davidson County, offering a complete line of services from cleanings to oral surgery, and a way to finance the bill or become a member to reduce the out-of-pocket cost for dental services.

Dr. Kushan Shah and his wife, Dr. Mansi Shah, are opening My Dentaville in the Tyro community at 4423 N.C. Highway 150. The 2,600 square-foot office is going in the shopping center where the Snap Fitness gym formerly was.

“The name Dentaville comes from this being a small town,” office manager Lydia Ramos said. “We want to be that small, town home feel dental practice. We want to be part of the community.”

The dentists were unable to be interviewed because of a family illness but provided information and a photo for this story.

Dentaville will be open on a smaller scale at first, with Dr. Kushan Shah working on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the practice grows with more patients, Dr. Mansi Shah will join him, Ramos said.

The target opening date is June 20. There is still some work to do with painting, lighting and installing equipment.

The dentists will offer pediatric and adult dental care. A full range of services will be offered from dental cleanings and x-rays to dental implants, oral surgery teeth whitening and more.

The practice will accept most insurance and is working to be able to accept Medicaid. There will be financing programs for people without insurance. The first is a financing program through Sunbit. The other will be a membership program that allows you to prepay for a year’s worth of cleanings and X-rays.

“That cost will be less than what it will cost if you had insurance,” Ramos said.

The Shahs have dreamed of opening their own dental practice for years, they wrote in a emailed statement. They are both 2011 graduates of Gujarat University with bachelor’s degrees in dental surgery. After practicing in India, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to pursue their master’s degrees in public health at the University of North Texas.

In addition, they pursued additional training and graduated from Boston University with DMDs in 2017. They have worked at a dental practice in Concord for the past seven years.
