Annual Color Drop fundraiser returns
The New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation’s annual Color Drop will rain golf balls over Waveny Park, 677 South Ave., on March 22 at 10 a.m.

A helicopter will release 2,000 colored golf balls over a designated target in Waveny Park. Each ball is numbered individually and the participants whose golf balls land closest to the target will win one of several grand prizes including a 2025 Chevy Colorado.
All of the proceeds will be donated to need-based college scholarships for NCHS graduates. Spectators are welcome.
Golf balls are $100 each and can be purchased at nchs-sf.org/colordrop.
Library lecture on David Lynch
Film historian Greg Blank will discuss the films of David Lynch in a lecture at the New Canaan Library, 151 Main St., March 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Lynch was an American artist and filmmaker whose distinctive cinematic body of work includes such classics as “Eraserhead,” “The Elephant Man,” “Dune,” “Blue Velvet,” and “Mulholland Drive.”
Through an examination of clips from Lynch's films, documentary interviews, critical analysis, and other visual art, Blank will explore the imagery and motifs of Lynch’s dream-like filmmaking and his influence on cinema around the world today.
Blank is a New York-based filmmaker and film historian with over 15 years of experience as a producer, director, cinematographer and editor. He has produced over 60 lecture programs for public and private clients, colleges, continuing education programs and libraries around the country.

NCHS students to perform “Les Misérables”
New Canaan High School students are set to perform the classic pop-opera musical “Les Misérables,” for their winter musical March 20 through 22.
Performances at the high school, 11 Farm Road, are scheduled for 7 p.m., with a fourth performance on March 22 at 1 p.m.
Based on the 1862 Victor Hugo novel, the musical is "an epic tale of passion, redemption and the struggle between right and wrong set in the throes of revolution," a description of the event reads, adding that the production may be "the biggest show to ever hit the high school auditorium’s stage."

Silver Hill president at Men's Club
Dr. Andrew J. Gerber, Silver Hill Hospital’s president and medical director, will speak to the New Canaan Men’s Club at its March 7 meeting in remarks titled, “The Past and Future of Mental Health.”
The Men’s Club will meet at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge. Gerber’s talk is slated to begin at 10:40 a.m.

At Silver Hill, Gerber oversees day-to-day operations of inpatient, residential, outpatient levels of care as well as nursing, research and education. Gerber received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.

Student honors
Several New Canaan students were named to Holy Cross' fall semester dean's list for outstanding academic achievement: Colin Byrne, Michael Caldero, Lydon Cooney, John Greiner, Maeve Hibbert, Jeremiah Keefe of New Canaan, Jack O'Donnell, Grant Pittaro, Alessandra Rutigliano and Lauren Walsh. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must pass four or more letter-graded courses with no failing grades during the semester and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

New Canaan students Tighe Hoey and Anna Zoccolillo were named to the dean's list at Hamilton College for the fall 2024 semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be a member of the class of 2025, 2026 or 2027, have carried a course load of four or more graded credits throughout the semester and earned an average GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
