The push comes as the company, led by president and managing partner Coleman Team, continues work on several of the Triad's largest active developments, including the mixed-use project rising next to Wake Forest University's athletic facilities.
Front Street Capital traces back to 1984, when Robin Team founded the development, investment and management firm, according to the Triad Business Journal. Robin Team later moved to chairman of the company's board while remaining involved in its future, and Coleman Team took over as president, a title he still holds as president and managing partner. A 2025 Power 50 feature in the Triad Business Journal described Front Street Capital as one of the region's most prolific developers, pointing to the 2.15 million square feet the firm has added over the past five years.
That reputation lines up with how other outlets have characterized the company. Journal Now has called Front Street Capital one of the Triad's busiest commercial and industrial real estate developers, noting the firm is always on the lookout for potential major projects. The same outlet reported that Front Street Capital is pursuing the location of what would become the Triad's next megasite.
That megasite ambition centers on Lexington, where Front Street Capital is pursuing an 850-acre master-planned industrial park, according to ConnectCRE. The company's current concept divides the property into 15 parcels ranging from 11 acres to 153 acres, with potential for roughly 8.4 million square feet of industrial space across the site. ConnectCRE reports the project is designed to accommodate advanced manufacturing, logistics firms and corporate campuses with multiple buildings, aided by the property's proximity to Interstate 85 and Norfolk Southern rail lines.
The timing tracks with broader momentum in the region's industrial sector. The Triad industrial market remained highly active in the first quarter of 2026 following a surge of transactions late last year, per market data from NAI Piedmont Triad. Demand was especially strong for small-bay spaces between 20,000 and 150,000 square feet, and merchant builders have re-entered the market with new speculative projects underway across multiple Triad submarkets, according to the same report.
While the Lexington site remains a pursuit rather than a done deal, Front Street Capital's most visible current project is already under construction in Winston-Salem. The Grounds is being developed by Wake Forest University, Carter and Front Street Capital, according to the Sports Business Journal, which reported the mixed-use development near the university's athletic venues has already landed its first five retail tenants ahead of a planned fall 2027 opening. The retail village portion of the project is owned by Front Street Capital and Carter and ground-leased from Wake Forest, the outlet reported.
Figures describing the scale and cost of The Grounds have varied across coverage. ConnectCRE has described the project's first phase as a $250 million undertaking, while VisitTheGrounds.com has characterized the broader development as a $150 million, 100-acre mixed-use project. Component details have also shifted between reports: VisitTheGrounds.com earlier described four major pieces, including a 100,000-square-foot Wake Forest office building, a 240-unit residential community and a 40,000-square-foot retail village, while the Sports Business Journal's more recent account lists a 229-unit student apartment community, 22 luxury residences and 42,000 square feet of experiential retail, dining, wellness and community-focused space in the first phase. ConnectCRE gives the Wake Forest-anchored office building as 135,000 square feet.
VisitTheGrounds.com reported the developers expect to finish the project's first phase in August 2027.

After a safety review of demolition work and weeks of cleanup, business owners expressed their excitement about the reopening, which came one day earlier than anticipated.
"We have 60 vendors in our shop, and I was like, the road is finally opening like we have been waiting," said Phyllis Westerlund, owner of Attic 13 and The Curvy Fox Boutique.
Westerlund noted that her businesses were new to the area when the fire occurred on May 19.
"We opened three days before the fire, so the only life that we know is fire life," she said. "So many people don't know about us because they've been going around us."
The owner of Red Donut Shop, Saro Vay shared his optimism about the reopening.
"Now with the roads back open, I'm pretty optimistic we can get back to business," he said.
Both business owners described the challenges they faced during the closure.
"Trying to balance the budget, keeping hours for the employees, not losing anybody, it was just a tough feeling," said Vay.
"My vendors haven't made any money because they rent spaces from me; all that goes towards the bills, and a lot of them haven't gotten paid," Westerlund said.
Despite the difficulties, the reopening has brought a sense of hope to the area.
"The day that my vendors have been waiting on is finally here," Westerlund said.
"We're back open for business, ride through, we have some donuts for y'all," Vay added.
Friday marks the First Friday event held on the first of each month in Uptown Lexington, and businesses are ready for a fresh start.

LEXINGTON, N.C. —
Demolition crews are set to begin work Monday for Shoto Japanese Restaurant and the Candy Factory in Lexington, 10 weeks after a fire destroyed both businesses.
“The buildings are going to come down together; it’s just the safest and easiest,” said Stephanie Huynh of Shoto Japanese Restaurant.
The fire, which investigators said was undetermined in origin, caused significant damage to the structures. Huynh said that fire investigators ruled out trespassing, but due to the severity of the damage, that's all officials were able to determine. Both businesses are working together under a shared demolition contract to carefully dismantle the buildings.
“They’re going to have to go up on scaffolding and chisel and hammer for the top layer of the bricks,” Huynh said.
The demolition process will be slow, with crews carefully removing all of the brick and wood remaining before architects can help the business owners reimagine their spaces.
“I’m sure excavators, dump trucks will be there. I know they’re going to use the back alley as kind of like ground zero, that’s where they’re going to haul everything out,” Huynh said.
The fire has had a major impact on Uptown Lexington, with a significant Main Street block closed since the blaze. Huynh encouraged the community to continue supporting local businesses during this time.
“The road might be closed for a few more weeks or a month, but everybody’s still out and about. And so we’re all ready to see the town rise out of the ashes, per se,” she said.
She said the road closure is due to the NCDOT and the City of Lexington wanting to ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians and surrounding businesses as well.
Despite the challenges ahead, Huynh expressed hope for the future of Shoto. Starting in August, the restaurateurs will have a food truck operating out of Brewer's Kettle in Lexington serving many of the fan favorites at the brewery and local street events.
Huynh also shared plans to incorporate salvaged bricks into the restaurant’s future design as an ode to the journey Shoto Japanese Restaurant has taken.
“We’d love to use some of the bricks as part of the façade in the front just to remember where we came from and that tragedy can bring joy,” she said.
Both Shoto Japanese Restaurant and the Candy Factory expect the demolition process to take several weeks, if not a couple of months. The exact timeline is also dependent on permitting from both the state and the city of Lexington, a process Huynh says is already underway.
