The Wolfpack’s leading receiver became a hybrid weapon down the stretch for NC State. The true freshman averaged nearly eight carries and 52 rushing yards per game across NC State’s last four games of the regular season.
But there was a common factor in play when he was racking up the rushing yards: poor run defenses.
Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and North Carolina finished 66th, 75th and 91st against the run, respectively. In those three games, he ran for 62 yards per game on the ground. When he drew the Miami Hurricanes and their 11th-ranked run defense, he was held in check with 22 yards on six carries.
Kansas State isn’t a dominant run defense (140 yards per game allowed, 46th), but it did finish 21st in Run Defense Success Rate and will be keying on Concepcion all game.
When it comes to the ground game, K-State has gotten by with the use of gang tackling. But when teams put defenders on islands, things get dicey for the Wildcats. Kansas State was graded out as the 122nd-ranked team in the country in terms of tackling by Pro Football Focus.
Those missed tackles reared their head outside of the box, in open space, on big chunk passing plays. The Wildcats gave up 13 pass plays of at least 40 yards this season (118th).
I believe Concepcion will hit some big ones in this game, but I don’t see him doing it as a traditional runner.
The Wildcats have lost a few key players in their front seven, but the biggest defensive loss is Will Lee III at cornerback. Lee was honorable mention All-Big 12, and his departure into the transfer portal leaves the Cats even more vulnerable through the air.
Keep in mind that Concepcion was targeted 10-plus times in five games this season, so there’s a decent chance that NC State offensive coordinator Robert Anae opts to attack K-State’s vulnerability through the air instead of handing the ball to Concepcion.
Anae has used Concepcion on jet sweeps, as a traditional running back and as a wildcat option throughout the season, but his increased usage as a ball-carrier caught opponents by surprise late in the season.
With five games worth of tape available to Joe Klanderman, I believe Kansas State will be prepared for Concepcion’s run packages. I would play this down to 42.5 yards.

There was buzz this August that Arnold would overtake Dillon Gabriel for the starting role by midseason. Then Gabriel went thermonuclear, stayed healthy and flirted with a trip to New York City for the Heisman presentation.
That's a reflection of Gabriel’s play, not Arnold’s limitations. The five-star quarterback was the 10th-rated recruit in the entire country this past cycle and the top prospect in the state of Texas.
He’s already a polished passer, flashes a live arm and has the functional mobility to take advantage of defenses when RPOs are dialed up for him. In garbage time this season, he completed 75% of his attempts for two scores and zero interceptions.
Given Gabriel’s early defection to the West Coast, Arnold has received double-digit practices as the QB1 leading up to this game, and he’s set to face a mediocre Arizona pass defense. The Wildcats finished 72nd in passing defense, 65th in PFF coverage rankings and 52nd in aerial explosives allowed.
Then there’s the game flow.
Arizona finished the year on an offensive heater. Wildcats quarterback Noah Fifita faced three ranked opponents in his final five games, and they did little to slow him down. In that five-game stretch, he averaged 314 yards through the air while tossing 15 touchdowns.
This offense has risen to an elite level under Jedd Fisch and offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll. They will move the ball, they will score and this game will be set up for Arnold and OU to play catch-up.
Oklahoma was gutted this season by big plays through the air (109th in explosives allowed), and that should equate to quick scoring drives for Arizona.
My only true concern with this play is the patchwork Oklahoma offensive line. The Sooners are down three high-quality starters, and while Arizona wasn’t a Havoc-minded defense, they should be able to get to Arnold in this one.
Despite those pocket concerns, I would still play Arnold’s over all the way up to 255.5.

Yet the Huskies didn’t move up at all in the latest Associated Press Top 25 rankings, checking in at No. 17 for the third straight week.
UConn defeated then-No. 24 North Carolina, 76-64, in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase at Mohegan Sun on Dec. 10 before taking down Louisville, 86-62, at the XL Center on Saturday.
Part of the reason for the lack of movement can be attributed to the fact that many teams were off during the week for exams. The top 10 in the poll went unchanged from last week, with South Carolina remaining the unanimous No. 1 team in the country.
UCLA, NC State, Iowa and Texas rounded out the top five. USC, LSU, Colorado, Stanford and Baylor make up the rest of the top 10.
Washington (11-0) entered the poll for the first time this season, checking in at No. 23.
UConn was set to open Big East play with a matchup against Butler at the XL Center on Monday night, then travels to Toronto for an exhibition game against Toronto Metropolitan, in what will be a homecoming for senior forward Aaliyah Edwards, who’s originally from Kingston, Ontario.

UConn guard KK Arnold was named Big East Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Monday. Arnold helped the Huskies to an 86-62 win over No. 18 Louisville on Saturday. She scored 11 points and added five assists and three steals.
The Germantown, Wis., native has made four starts in ten games so far and is averaging 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. A UConn player has been named the conference’s Freshman of the Week in five of six weeks this season, with Qadence Samuels earning the award on Nov. 13.
No. 17 UConn (7-3) opens BIG EAST play Monday vs. Butler (7-3) at the XL Center. The game will tip at 7 p.m. on SNY.

GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T baseball has made several significant changes since its season ended in May. Those changes culminated in head coach Ben Hall naming Forrest Arnold the program's new pitching coach. In addition to hiring Arnold, the Aggies promoted Elliott McCummings to recruiting coordinator.
Arnold replaces longtime A&T pitching Jamie Serber, who became Elon's pitching coach during the offseason. Last season's director of player development and director of operations, Justin Guy, also moved on to become an assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Wingate. Hall thanked both men for their major contributions to the program as Serber coached four minor leaguers during his time with A&T.
In Forrest, the Aggies have a young coach who previously coached at Eastern Illinois program that reached an NCAA regional in 2023 after winning the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship. Arnold, West Columbia, S.C., native, stands at 6-foot-10.
"Forrest is a Carolina guy," Hall said. "Being from South Carolina, he made an awesome impact at Eastern Illinois, helping them reach the NCAA tournament in 2023. He spent time under one of the best pitching minds in college baseball at Middle Tennessee State. Coach Arnold will do a great job guiding our pitching staff going forward. Arnold came to Eastern Illinois in August of 2022, a few months after spending a season as a volunteer assistant under the tutelage of then-pitching and associate head coach Jerry Meyers. In his one season at Eastern Illinois, the Panthers reached the Vanderbilt Regional, won 38 games and the OVC tournament.
In addition, Arnold coached two first-team All-OVC pitchers, Ky Hampton and Zane Robbins. Robbins also made first-team All-Region. Eastern Illinois pitching produced 418 strikeouts, 14 saves and seven shutouts. The 2023 Panthers also broke the program record for innings pitched (518.0).
A&T will not be Arnold's first experience at a historically black college or university (HBCU). Before arriving at MTSU, Arnold spent a season at Division II HBCU Savannah State in 2021. The Tigers posted a 14-7 record and appeared in the Black College World Series.
Arnold also assisted in starting a junior college program – South Carolina Union – in 2018. He remained the program's pitching coach until 2020. He also served as the head coach in the Beach Collegiate Baseball League in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he won a championship and earned coach of the year in 2019.
Arnold earned a bachelor's degree in sports management in 2017 from Coker University. He pitched four years for the Coker Cobras, making 64 appearances and striking 147 while posting a 5-3 record with a 3.99 ERA as a senior.
McCummings enters his third season with the A&T program. He works primarily with the A&T outfielders and assists with the Aggies offense.

Perhaps most notable among Palmer's designs is his courses at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, where the Arnold Palmer Invitational is played on the PGA Tour each year. The Champion/Challenger course at Bay Hill has been updated quite a bit through the years, and The King always had final say over its tweaks. Much of the attention this week will be on Arnie's contributions to the tournament game. But we shouldn't lose sight of his contributions to course design. I've always been fascinated by the design of Bay Hill, Arnold Palmer's home course for over 45 years (although Tiger Woods owns it, competitively-speaking, as he's won there eight times.) For one thing, it's rather hilly, a rarity in Florida (although not in the Orlando market) and dotted with sinkhole ponds incorporated in the design in dramatic ways.
I always thought the wrap-around-a-lake par-5 sixth was Dick Wilson's version of Robert Trent Jones's decade-older 13th at The Dunes Club at Myrtle Beach. Each of the two rivals had claimed the other was always stealing his ideas. But the hole I like best at Bay Hill is the par-4 eighth, a lovely dogleg-right with a diagonal green perched above a small circular pond. OK, I admit that it reminds me of the sixth at Hazeltine National, another Trent Jones product, but I don't think Wilson picked Trent's pocket on this one, as both courses were built about the same time, in the early 1960s.

Tradition G.C., La Quinta, Calif. (1998)
Hard against the Santa Rosa Mountains, it’s the prettiest course in Palm Springs. Palmer admitted he insisted on elaborate flower-bed landscaping because his late wife, Winnie, loved floral displays. Tradition Golf Club, which unveiled a statue to Mr. Palmer a few years ago in honor of his contributions to the club, is ranked 187th in the United States in our most recent Second 100 Greatest rankings and 21st on our ultra-competitive Best Courses in California.

Tradition Golf Club was intended to be Palmer Course Design’s answer to the most opulent private courses in greater Palm Springs, such as No. 85 The Quarry at La Quinta and No. 196 Vintage Club (Mountain). Built on the old Hacienda del Gato Ranch, the front nine is routed over rolling desert and through a flood-control basin, while most of the back nine is tucked at the base of the rocky slopes of the Santa Rosa Mountains, with three holes (15th through 17th) curving around a 90-degree bend dubbed the “Coyote Canyon.” Almost every hole here has a distinguishing feature, from desert wash to serpentine waste bunker to double fairway to boulder landscaping to cascading waterfalls. The common overall theme are fields of wildflowers spread throughout the far roughs. During a 2005 Golf Digest Panelist Summit, Arnold Palmer explained he had those flowers planted to appeal to his first wife, Winnie, who loved flora much more than golf.

A captivating design that starts like Pebble Beach along high cliffs and finishes in rugged dunes similar to Ballybunion. Tralee was recently ranked 11th on Golf Digest's top-20 courses in Ireland.
Adios G.C., Coconut Creek, Fla. (1984)
An exclusive male-only oasis in busy South Florida, Adios is the rare Florida course with no housing. The layout is testy, with narrow fairways among pines and ponds and highly contoured greens. Adios was named one of Golf Digest's "Best Damn Clubs," mostly for being a great hang, but also for its stout course.

Old Tabby Links, Spring Island, S.C. (1993)
Said to have been Palmer’s favorite, Old Tabby is a gorgeous lowcountry layout, with fairways framed by mammoth live oaks and greens edged by lagoons and tidal marsh. It's currently ranked 17th in our Best Courses in South Carolina.

Arnold Palmer and his designers Ed Seay and Harrison Minchew designed an extraordinary mountainous layout as high as 5,400 feet of elevation within the Balsam Mountain Preserve, a 4,400-acre community about 45 minutes from Asheville and an hour from the Tennessee border. Forced carries over ravines and streams on most holes make this a difficult course to navigate for some, but our panelists give the routing top sccores for aesthetics with the tremendous views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Jamie Arnold set career-highs with six innings pitched and 11 strikeouts as he didn’t allow a run and picked up his second win of the season. Drew Faurot led the offense with three extra-base hits and three runs scored. Jaxson West added a career-high three hits as the offense produced 15 total hits....

Arnold was lights out from his first pitch. The southpaw struck out the side in order in the first. He ran into trouble in the second inning following a leadoff double and back-to-back full-count walks but responded with two strikeouts on seven pitches to strand the bases loaded:

The left-hander only allowed one baserunner over the next four frames. He struck out two in a 1-2-3 third before inducing an inning-ending double play in the fourth. DeAmez Ross produced a web gem for the first out of the fourth as he made a leaping catch in right-center field to take away extra bases.

The sophomore completed his outing with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. He struck out two in the fifth and finished the day with his 11th strikeout. His final pitch was a 96 MPH fastball. Eight of his 11 strikeouts came on the fastball. He posted a final line of 6 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 11 K, 0 R, and 84 pitches. Through two starts, Arnold has struck out 20 batters and only allowed three hits in 11 innings. He has yet to allow an earned run.
The Seminoles cracked the scoreboard in the third. Faurot led off the frame with his first career triple as he skied a flyball off the center field wall. Ross plated him on a safety squeeze.

Two innings later, Faurot led off the inning with another extra-base hit. The switch-hitter roped a line drive into the RF corner for a double. West skied a flyball off the base of the RF wall to plate Faurot with his first career triple. Ross scored West with a sacrifice fly. The Seminoles led 3-0 through five.
The offense broke out in the sixth. Jaime Ferrer and Marco Dinges began the frame with back-to-back singles. Ferrer crossed the plate on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Lodise. Three straight doubles from Daniel Cantu, Faurot, and West extended the lead to 7-0. FSU tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Dinges to lead by
Freshman Hudson Rowan relieved Arnold. He worked a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. The Catamounts got to him in his eighth with a two-run homer over the RF fence. The left-hander was relieved by Joe Charles after a pair of walks. A single, a bases-loaded walk, and a passed ball cut FSU's lead to four. Brennen Oxford got the Seminoles out of the inning with a strikeout, which stranded two runners in scoring position.
Oxford returned for the ninth with a four-run lead. The first two batters reached base on a double and a walk. The left-handed pitcher responded with three straight strikeouts to claim the series victory.
