RECENTLY, 55 remarkable runners from Kenilworth Town Football and Netball Club, affectionately known as the KT FC & NC Fab 55, took on the Two Castles Run, raising funds and awareness for SOS Silence of Suicide and The Lily Mae Foundation. What followed was a deeply moving act of generosity, as the team presented SOS with a cheque for £3,652 at their ‘End of Season Bash’ on Saturday 5th July, a day overflowing with connection, compassion and heartfelt conversation.
This event was made even more special because SOS Silence of Suicide was founded right here in Kenilworth. Born from unimaginable personal loss to suicide, Michael Mansfield KC and his wife Yvette Greenway-Mansfield created the charity to give voice to those who feel silenced by stigma, shame or suffering. To return to Kenilworth and receive such warmth, support and solidarity from the community that witnessed the charity’s earliest days was profoundly emotional and humbling.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Marcus Leek, Chair of Kenilworth Town Football & Netball Club, and every single member of the Fab 55 team for choosing to run, speak up, and stand beside us. Your dedication reminds us that suicide prevention doesn’t happen in silence; it takes community, compassion, and courage.
Matthew Weaver, Senior Partnerships Manager for SOS Silence of Suicide, shared:
“This wasn’t just a fundraiser. It was a homecoming. To witness this level of support from a community so close to our roots means more than words can express. The Fab 55 didn’t just run for charity, they ran to start life-saving conversations, and to help those struggling know they are not alone. We are incredibly grateful.”
The team was also honoured to meet the Lord Mayor of Kenilworth, James Kennedy, and his wife, who welcomed us with such kindness and took the time to learn about our work. These moments of connection, empathy and understanding are at the heart of what we do.
Reflecting on the journey, Marcus Leek, Chair of Kenilworth Town Football & Netball Club, said:
“Our Fab 55 set out to raise money, but they’ve done so much more. They’ve helped break down the silence that surrounds mental health and suicide. As a club rooted in our community, we are proud to support causes that matter and to stand with a charity born right here in Kenilworth is brilliant. This charity now carries even more meaning for us all.”
To the KC FC & NC Fab 55, thank you. For every mile, every conversation, every act of kindness. You are helping us save lives and remind people everywhere that they are never alone.
The funds raised will go towards helping us to provide 2,435 mins of life-saving conversations and support. Thank you for being part of our mission.
