If you’ve been anxiously waiting for The Speckled Egg Cafe? to reopen, you’re not alone.
At the soft opening of its Lambertville location Tuesday morning, a steady stream of customers created a line out the door, excited to return to the cafe? after a six-month hiatus while the restaurant transitioned into its new space.
The Speckled Egg Cafe? — which got its humble start in in 2021 at the Golden Nugget Antique Flea Market in Amwell, New Jersey before landing at Rice’s in New Hope the following year — can now be found in its own stand-alone spot in the former Manon building on North Union Street.
“The fact that we have a real space with a beautiful kitchen and a lovely history, it’s sort of a pinch me moment,” said Tony Artur, who owns The Speckled Egg Cafe with Chef Megan Loos.
“We wouldn’t be in this space if it wasn’t for the people who have come to love us and what we do. And it’s humbling because the people we’re feeding made it possible for us to feed them,” he added.
How The Speckled Egg Cafe? became a foodie destination
From the very beginning, Loos and Artur aimed to make food that would appeal to flea marketgoers and foodies alike, experimenting with a diverse range of regional and global flavors and creating a space that felt inviting to everyone who stepped through their doors.
Despite — or perhaps in spite of — its flea market beginnings, however, the small eatery quickly grew into a dining destination, all while staying true to its casual vibe and laidback charm.
And in 2024, The Speckled Egg Cafe? gained added attention when it was named to USA TODAY'S Restaurants of the Year list, further cementing it as a must-try spot among locals and visitors.
The Speckled Egg Cafe?’s new hours and menu
During the week, the cafe continues to offer its eclectic breakfast and lunch fare — including a rotation of favorites like their veggie egg and cheese sandwich, breakfast broth, banh mi hot dog, lamb smash burger, mini sesame rosewater doughnuts and Folk City coffee.
Its hours of operation are still to be determined, but for the first couple weeks, the cafe? will be open Monday through Wednesday for breakfast and lunch, said Artur.
In addition, he said they plan to offer some unique dinner offerings and experiences on the weekends, not unlike the popups they previously hosted at other local establishments.
