FREEHOLD, NJ — By the Jersey Shore, it's not too uncommon to see rock stars like Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi hanging out or grabbing a bite to eat. For one Freehold diner, it's even something that happens more than once.
On Wednesday, Roberto’s Freehold Grill on East Main Street posted a photo with Springsteen and Bon Jovi at the grill, labeling them as “Jersey’s Rock Legends.”
While the post didn't provide specifics about the stars' visit to the restaurant, the photo was met with plenty of love from customers in the comments.
A representative from the grill was not immediately available for more information when Patch called on Friday.
This visit is far from the first time Springsteen has stopped by the grill, either.
In April, the diner shared a photo of Springsteen stopping by the restaurant, and in January, the grill posted a few pics of him visiting then as well.
“Bruce was in the house,” the grill said of the Boss’ Jan. 14 visit. “It’s always a pleasure to serve you, boss, my hometown, Freehold.”
As a Freehold native and current Colts Neck resident, Springsteen’s roots in Monmouth County have led to multiple appearances (and sometimes, even performances) at various local restaurants and venues.
In January, the Boss was in town with Jeremy Allen White to film “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” a biopic based on the making of Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album.
White (known for hit shows such as “Shameless” and “The Bear”) is starring as Springsteen in the film, which already promises plenty of New Jersey cameos, ranging from the Asbury Park Boardwalk and the Stone Pony to shops in Downtown Freehold.
“Jeremy Allen White was very, very tolerant of me the days that I would appear on the set,” Springsteen said of his visits to the “Deliver Me From Nowhere” set. “I said to him, ‘Look, anytime I’m in the way, just give me the look and I’m on my way home.’”
Though Springsteen offered to leave the set when needed, White welcomed his presence. In an interview with GQ, he said he was “really lucky” that Springsteen has been supportive of the film, describing him as “the greatest guy.”
“I've got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing,” White said. “I'm also really lucky [that] Bruce is really supportive of the film, and so I've had some access to him and he's just the greatest guy.”
