MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – A state of emergency will take effect statewide at 10 p.m. Saturday as a powerful nor'easter will bring damaging winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rainfall across New Jersey, including Middlesex County.
Acting Governor Tahesha Way issued the declaration for all 21 counties, warning residents to prepare for extreme weather conditions, particularly along the coast.
"Starting on Sunday, a dangerous coastal storm will begin to move past our state with extreme weather conditions for several counties, especially those on the Shore," Way said. "I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary."
The emergency declaration authorizes state emergency services personnel to activate as needed and will remain in effect until officials determine the emergency has ended.
Storm Forecast and Impacts
The nor'easter is expected to bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, moderate to major coastal flooding, and several inches of heavy rain. Middlesex County anticipates three to five inches of rain from Sunday evening through Monday, with potential for severe coastal flooding.
Winds are forecast to gradually increase throughout Sunday, peaking late in the day and continuing into Monday with gusts as high as 45 mph. Combined with waves of showers and steady rain, conditions could lead to isolated downed trees, branches, and power outages.

Middlesex County will close several parks that may be impacted by flooding starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 11. Affected parks include Raritan Bay Waterfront Park (Sayreville), Alvin P. Williams Memorial Park (Woodbridge), Old Bridge Waterfront Park (Old Bridge), Donaldson Park (Highland Park), and Johnson Park (Piscataway). The parks will remain closed until conditions are deemed safe.
